About the Artist

Brett Greenfield grew up in Brisbane in the 1950’s and 60’s where he spent as much spare time as possible sailing, fishing and generally being around the ocean. He also started drawing and painting, mainly being self taught.

After deciding office jobs weren’t for him Brett moved to North Queensland where he spent a decade as a professional fisherman, running his own trawler for a number of years. After the birth of his daughter, he returned to south-east Queensland and a “regular” working life, painting and drawing only occasionally. In the late 1990’s he moved inland from the Gold Coast to a small country town, where he lives high on a hill with his two dogs Bindi and Sam. With the encouragement of his daughter, Honor, an emerging artist and designer, Brett has resumed his painting and drawing.

His work revolves around the themes of his lifelong affinity with boating and fishing, his love of birds and Australian native animals, and the influence of his country surrounds and the farming/outback lifestyle of the Australian Bush. Brett’s work uses both traditional sketching and painting, and the tools of the digital age. For a man whose technological know-how a couple of years ago was limited to using a VCR, the move to desktop art with drawing tablets, Corel painter and websites has been a revelation.
